There were years of my life when mornings in our house felt like survival mode.
Everyone was rushing in different directions. Something was always missing. Someone always needed something. I started most days already feeling behind. I’d wake up reaching for my phone, scanning messages and mentally running through my to-do list before I even got out of bed. Even on the mornings I read Scripture or prayed, it felt hurried. My mind was already moving, and I carried that restless energy straight into my time with God and straight into the kitchen with my family.
Nothing was necessarily going wrong. Life was just loud, reactive, and constantly rushed.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that my mornings were setting the tone for our entire home. When I started the day tense and distracted, everyone felt it. When I started centered and calm, the atmosphere shifted.
I was already meeting with God, but I wasn’t aligning with Him. I’d finish a devotion and then step into a full day I hadn’t invited Him into. The turning point came when I stopped separating prayer from planning and brought my actual day into His presence. I opened my planner beside my prayers and started talking with Him about the appointments, the responsibilities, and the people ahead of me.
That small shift changed everything.
My mornings didn’t become perfect or quiet, but they became steady. I stopped reacting to the day and started leading it. Adjustments felt easier. The little things ran more smoothly. And over time, peace began to fill our home–not because life slowed down, but because my heart had aligned with God before the day began.
That’s where the Morning Meeting was born.
The Morning Meeting is meant to meet you in real life. It’s a rhythm you can return to, especially on days that feel full, messy, or unclear. A place where you show up as you are and work with Jesus on what the day–or your heart—actually needs–
At its core, the Morning Meeting is a flexible rhythm built around five simple practices. These are touch-points you return to.
Pray Continually
Prayer is simply acknowledging God’s presence and inviting Him into your day. In the Morning Meeting, we start with prayer, but we continue in prayer throughout the entire time. Every prompt, every plan, every task we note is done in conversation with Him.
Proclaim Truth
Proclaiming truth is the practice of reading and speaking God’s truth over yourself to realign your heart and mind. This may be a verse you’re memorizing or an affirmation written with Him. Scripture tells us that we are transformed by the renewing of our minds. Do you hear that? The transformation we seek comes through changing what we believe and how we think. In the Morning Meeting, we proclaim truth each morning and let it soak into our day.
Plot Health
Plotting health is simply noticing and documenting how you are caring for your body. It’s about awareness and gentle accountability. You may note how you slept or how your body feels, write down an intention for movement, meals, or rest, or acknowledge where you stayed aligned and where you didn’t. Taking a moment each morning to check in with your health can quietly keep you connected to the intentions you’ve already set.
Ponder His Word
Pondering His Word is where you spend time with Scripture and allow it to speak to you. Some days this means reading a single verse or short passage. Other days it may look like working through a Bible study or reading a longer section when you have more margin.
Plan Your Day
Planning your day is where you bring your responsibilities before God and decide how to carry them. Remember, we are praying continually. Our time with Him doesn’t stop when we start planning. Invite him in and ask Him what he has as you plan your day and tasks. This may involve writing down the one thing that truly needs your attention, mapping your day hour by hour, or looking ahead to prepare for what’s coming. Planning here isn’t about control. It’s about cooperation. You’re no longer planning alone.
This rhythm teaches you to stop planning in isolation. It helps you consider yourself in your plans, notice when your calendar is too tight, and steward your energy, time, and environment with greater intention. Most of all, it reminds you that you don’t have to face the day alone.
The Morning Meeting isn’t about getting it right. It’s about having a place to return to again and again, where alignment comes before action and partnership replaces pressure.
You show up as you are.
You bring what the day holds.
And you work with Jesus on what comes next.
That’s the rhythm you’ll return to.
